Health Pilot Group

The general mental health of the community has been severley impacted by modern living and recently the pandemic. This group is looking at initiatives to improve our mental and physical health.

Greener Waldringfield looks for ways for us all to improve the impact we have on our climate and the natural world to help sustain our beautiful planet into the future. The Health Pilot identifies and increases opportunities for our villagers to sustain and improve our personal health.

In Waldringfield we have many opportunities to take healthy exercise in the open air--walking, cycling, swimming, rowing, paddle boarding, sailing. We are blessed with a magical environment. We also have a wonderful indoor venue in the Village Hall with its own sustainable PV energy source. There are several regular exercise classes offered weekly and we hope to expand this to be more inclusive.

In partnership with the ActivLives charity we are organising a Seated Exercise for Fall Prevention taster session on Monday the 6th September 2021. Falls are the greatest cause of morbidity and loss of independence in older people. Our experienced trainer is Joanne Powley. Have a look here at a sample of the exercises Jo will take us through:

Come and meet Clare Macdonald, ActivLives Development Officer, at the Waldringfield Village Coffee Morning on Thursday 2nd September to learn more about Seated Exercises and the free taster session on the 6th September (more details here). If there is sufficient interest, this will become a weekly session on Mondays. We will be publicising the taster session during the rest of the summer.

The Health Pilot is compiling a directory of local activities and health care practitioners in our area. A link to this will be provided here on the Greener Waldringfield website when it is ready. The directory and this area of the GW website will provide self-help tips to enhance our physical and mental wellbeing. We are taking our focus from the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine.

The BSLM is an organisation of health care professionals and educators who encourage the prevention, reversal and better management of chronic conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, cancer, respiratory and musculoskeletal conditions and mental health issues which are the result of complex lifestyle factors. They have physical, emotional, environmental and social determinants.

The Greener Waldringfield Health Pilot is here to assist our community with self-help that meets the BSLM’s focus on:
  • Physical activity and exercise
  • Diet and nutrition
  • Sleep
  • Stress reduction and mental health
  • Healthy relationships

Let us know what you are doing and find helpful in these areas and watch this space for initiatives and tips.
